Why Carriers Bill the Bigger Number
Aircraft and trucks run out of space before they run out of payload, so light, bulky cargo is charged by the room it occupies. The divisor converts volume into a weight equivalent: air freight divides cubic centimetres by 6,000, most courier services by 5,000. Whichever is greater — the scale reading or the volumetric result — becomes your chargeable weight.
Reducing carton height by a few centimetres, or shipping disassembled furniture flat-packed, often cuts the volumetric figure below the actual weight and saves real money. Our packing team does this assessment during pickup on request.
