A joinery bench that took your Al Quoz workshop three weeks to build can be ruined by one careless forklift move. That is why our cargo company Al Quoz operation is built around packing first and transport second. From Industrial Area 1 to 4, we crate, wrap and brace goods so they leave a warehouse gate in the same condition they reach a Saudi customer.
1. The Al Quoz cargo profile: heavy, awkward, valuable
Very little that leaves this district fits neatly into a standard carton. Al Quoz is where Dubai actually makes things — custom sofas and majlis sets from the furniture workshops, steel frames and signage from the fabricators, canvases and sculpture from the Alserkal Avenue galleries, plus pallet after pallet of stock held in the area's warehouses. Every one of those categories fails in transit for a different reason.
Upholstered pieces crush under top-loading. Powder-coated metal scratches against strapping. Framed artwork cracks at the corners when a truck brakes hard. A freight partner working here has to understand failure modes, not just truck schedules, and build the protection before the journey starts.
2. How we pack: matching protection to the item
Our crews carry the packing decision to your premises rather than applying one method to everything. Solid-wood furniture gets corner protectors, blanket wrap and shrink film; glass tops and mirrors travel in custom timber crates with foam lining; machinery is bolted or banded to heat-treated pallets so nothing shifts under braking. For gallery consignments we build individual crates sized to each work, with silica packs where humidity is a concern.
Weight distribution inside the truck matters just as much. Heavy fabrication pieces sit over the axles, crated items are blocked and braced against lateral movement, and nothing rides loose. It is unglamorous carpentry and strapping work, but it is the difference between a claim form and a five-star review from your Riyadh client.
3. Collections across Industrial Areas 1 to 4
We schedule pickups the way the district works: loading docks in the morning before workshop deliveries stack up, forklift-assisted collections for palletised loads, and tail-lift trucks for units without their own ramp. Whether your unit sits off Sheikh Zayed Road on the Area 1 side or deep in Area 3's warehouse rows near Al Khail Road, the crew arrives with the right vehicle for your access.
For manufacturers shipping regularly, we can slot a standing weekly collection so finished orders never wait around the workshop floor gathering dust and forklift risk. One WhatsApp message (+971 58 936 0016) with photos of the items is usually enough for us to specify the crate work and quote.
4. Documentation that protects your goods as much as bubble wrap
Physical damage is only half the risk; the other half is paperwork that undersells or misdescribes your cargo. A commercial invoice that lists "furniture — used" for a bespoke dining set worth thousands invites both customs queries and an insurance shortfall if anything goes wrong. We prepare invoices and packing lists that describe items accurately, with values you can defend.
For the Saudi lane, consignments clear through the Al Batha border after crossing Al Ghuwaifat, and inspectors there open crates when descriptions look vague. Precise documentation keeps your crates sealed and your schedule intact. Certificates of origin and conformity papers, where product categories require them, are arranged before the truck departs Dubai.
5. Services for workshops, galleries and warehouses
On-site crating
Timber crates measured and built at your unit for glass, stone, artwork and machinery that cartons cannot protect.
Storage before dispatch
Short-term warehousing for finished orders awaiting a customer payment or a consolidated truckload.
Heavy-item handling
Forklift and tail-lift equipped collections for fabrication pieces, CNC equipment and palletised stock.
Delivery windows follow the standard rhythm for the region: most GCC road shipments complete in three to seven working days from collection. Fragile or high-value moves sometimes justify a dedicated vehicle rather than shared truck space — slower to fill, faster to arrive, and nothing else stacked against your crates.
6. Pre-collection checklist for Al Quoz shippers
A few preparations at your end make the packing crew faster and the customs file cleaner:
- Photograph each item before wrapping, including existing scratches or marks
- Drain fluids from any machinery — oils and fuels cannot cross the border in equipment
- Detach removable legs, shelves and glass panels for separate protection
- Prepare an invoice with realistic declared values per item
- Confirm the receiver's delivery access — villa, showroom or warehouse dock
- Flag anything containing batteries, aerosols or compressed gas at booking
Practical tip: never let varnish, paint or upholstery adhesive cure inside the wrap. Freshly finished furniture should air for at least a day before shrink-wrapping, or the film will imprint on the surface during a hot road journey.
7. What drives the price of an industrial consignment
Quotes from this district vary more than for carton freight because the goods vary so much. These are the levers that move the number:
| Cost factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Volume vs weight | Bulky furniture is charged on space; dense machinery on tonnage |
| Crating requirement | Custom timber work adds material and labour but prevents claims |
| Access and handling | Forklift availability, stairs, or manual carries change crew size |
| Declared value & cover | Higher insured values raise premiums slightly but cap your risk |
| Dedicated vs shared truck | Exclusive vehicles cost more but remove co-loading risk |

"They crated a twelve-seater marble dining table from our Area 2 workshop to a villa in Jeddah. Not a chip on it. The crate work alone was worth the fee."
Furniture workshop owner, Al Quoz Industrial 2"Our gallery sent six framed works to a collector in Riyadh. Each piece had its own crate and the condition report on arrival matched ours exactly."
Gallery manager, Alserkal Avenue"Moving a used CNC router to Dammam worried me — oil, weight, the lot. They drained, bolted and shipped it, and handled the customs description properly."

What determines the price of my shipment?
Chargeable volume or weight (whichever is greater), the packing work involved, handling equipment needed at pickup, insurance cover level, and whether you share truck space or book a dedicated vehicle. Send photos and dimensions and we quote the complete job — packing, freight, clearance and delivery — as one figure.
Which areas do you collect from?
All four Al Quoz industrial areas, Alserkal Avenue, and the showroom strips along Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. Collections extend across the wider Dubai area too, so a job combining your workshop output with stock from a supplier elsewhere in the city can move as one consignment.
Are any items prohibited or restricted?
Machinery must be drained of fuel and oil; aerosols, paints, thinners and other flammables need dangerous-goods handling or cannot travel by road freight at all. Batteries require declaration. Artwork depicting restricted subjects can be refused at Saudi customs, so ask us before shipping anything you are unsure about.
What customs documents do I need?
A commercial invoice with accurate descriptions and values, a packing list matching the crate count, and the receiver's ID or company registration. Certain products additionally need certificates of origin or conformity documents. We prepare and check the file before departure so the truck is not held at the crossing.
Should I insure my cargo, and at what value?
For workshop output and equipment, yes — declare the genuine replacement value, not a discounted figure. Underdeclaring saves a small premium but caps any claim at the low number you stated. We arrange transit cover at booking and the photographic condition record from packing supports any claim you ever need to make.
